This commitment to our students has kept us at the forefront of innovation, incorporating the most current technological and educational advances and appropriate strategies which are incorporated into our students' individualized programs. The School for Adaptive and Integrative Learning(SAIL) at Ferncliff Manor implements a dynamic, research-based comprehensive instructional program for students with severe, multiple, cognitive and developmental disabilities. While each student presents with highly intensive needs relative to his or her particular profile, all students to some degree share a common need for behavioral, social/emotional, linguistic, educational, and vocational supports.Serving no more than 8 students in a given class group, the ratio of students to educators is an essential element to the provision of sound instructional supports and each classroom staffed by one NYSED licensed special education teacher, one NYSED licensed Teacher Assistant, and two assisting direct service professionals; Margaret Brady Saich William J. At the core of our school program is our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) initiative. Established in 2016, PBIS was identified as an appropriate, highly effective, research- based model for leading students towards positive pro-social outcomes with increased frequency, programmatic sustainability, and real-world synergy. PBIS helps students to work with staff to develop and internalize a clearly identified and well-defined framework for desired character and behavior outcomes within specified settings. In collaboration with our regional Board of Children's Education Services (BOCES); SAIL has, in recent years, gained regional recognition and acclaim for its cutting edge program. Leveraging the effective school-wide PBIS program to dramatically reduce otherwise routine disruptive behaviors in the learning environment; each classroom presents it's group of learners with an experience tailored to them,as individuals with specific learning needs. Our talented and dedicated team of Certified Special Education Teachers, Behavioral Specialists, Social Workers, Direct Service Professionals, and other team members operate within the context of the aforementioned elements to deliver a program with synergy, practicality, and authenticity for students across multiple settings, including natural environment practice within community businesses, parks, and services. Our PBIS program and our comprehensive model for curriculum and instruction are rounded out with a detail-oriented case management and assessment system which deeply values a highly effective process of leveraging performance data to drive the process of establishing, approaching, and measuring success against excellent goals and objectives. These essential elements enable SAIL staff to deliver a high-quality learning experience for Every Student.
