The purpose of our review was to determine the adequacy of the existing structure to support the proposed installation of solar panels on the roof as shown on the panel layout plan. Based upon our review,we conclude that the existing structure is adequate to support the proposed solar panel installation. Design Parameters Code:2020 Building Code of New York State Risk Category:I Design wind speed,Vult: 106 mph(3-sec gust) Wind exposure category:C Ground snow load,Pg:30 psf Connection to Roof Mounting connection:(1)S-5! SolarFoot to flat 2x w/(4) 1/4"-14xl-1/2 wood screws Maximum mounting spacing along rails: Zone 1,2e(Beyond 4'from roof edge or within 4'of roof edge perpendicular to slope):48"o.c. Zone 2n,2r,3e(Within 4'of roof edge parallel w/slope,4'of roof ridge,or 4'of eave-eave corner):48"o.c. Zone 3r(Within 4'of ridge-eave corner):Panels shall not be installed in this zone Install(2)rails per row of panels, evenly spaced;panel length perpendicular to the rails shall not exceed 70 in Rail cantilever shall not exceed 33%of connection spacing Connections shall be staggered to not overload any existing structural member Conclusions Based upon our review,we conclude that the existing structure is adequate to support the proposed solar panel installation. In the area of the solar array, other live loads will not be present or will be greatly reduced (2020 Building Code of New York State, Section 1607.13.5.1). The gravity loads, and thus the stresses of the structural elements, in the area of the solar array are either decreased or increased by no more than 5%. Therefore, the requirements of Section 806.3 of the 2020 Existing Building Code of New York State are met and the structure is permitted to remain unaltered. 651 W.Galena Park Blvd.,Ste. 101/Draper, UT 84020/T(801)990-1775/F(801)990-1776/www.vectorse.com VSE Project Number: U2557.0735.221 . Joaquin Alemany Residence TOR 7/18/2022 E n G I n E E R s The solar array will be flush-mounted(no more than 10" above the roof surface) and parallel to the roof surface. Thus,we conclude that any additional wind loading on the structure related to the addition of the proposed solar array is negligible. The attached calculations verify the capacity of the connections of the solar array to the existing roof against wind(uplift), the governing load case. Increases in lateral forces less than 10%are considered acceptable. Thus the existing lateral force resisting system is permitted to remain unaltered. Limitations Installation of the solar panels must be performed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. All work performed must be in accordance with accepted industry-wide methods and applicable safety standards. The contractor must notify Vector Structural Engineering,LLC should any damage, deterioration or discrepancies between the as-built condition of the structure and the condition described in this letter be found. The use of solar panel support span tables provided by others is allowed only where the building type, site conditions, site-specific design parameters, and solar panel configuration match the description of the span tables. The design of the solar panels, solar racking(mounts, rails, etc.)and electrical engineering is the responsibility of others. Waterproofing around the roof penetrations is the responsibility of others. Vector Structural Engineering assumes no responsibility for improper installation of the solar array. Not just the worst storms in years, \ but the worst storms in 40 years. High winds capable of ripping panels from a roof, and snowfalls weighing enough to buckle a panel frame. q11 ® XR Rails are the structural backbone preventing these results. They resist uplift, protect ` against buckling and safely and efficiently 4, transfer loads into the building structure. Their superior spanning capability requires fewer roof attachments, reducing the number of roof ''• penetrations and the amount of installation time. l v i ' Force-Stabilizing Curve / Sloped roofs generate both vertical and lateral forces on mounting rails which can cause them to bend and twist. The curved shape of XR Rails is specially designed to increase strength in both directions while resisting the twisting. This unique feature ensures greater security during extreme weather and a longer system lifetime. i - - Compatible with Flat&Pitched Roofs Corrosion-Resistant Materials XR Rails are IronRidge offers All XR Rails are made of marine-grade Acompatible with a range of tilt leg aluminum alloy, then protected with an ' FlashFoot and options for flat anodized finish.Anodizing prevents surface other pitched roof roof mounting and structural corrosion, while also providing attachments. applications. a more attractive appearance. .
