I wanted to give a short explanation of the work that has taken place on my property, and y VILLAGE OF RYE BROOK
BUILDING DEPARTMENT
am applying for permits after the work has already occurred.
In June of 2019, 1 purchased an Intex above ground pool. I applied for a permit, I went before
the board, and I was issued the building permit. My family used the pool for the 2019 season.
In spring of 2020, during the pandemic prior to putting the pool back up for the season, I
decided to move a staircase leading from the deck to the yard,that was rendered useless by the
placement of the pool. To be perfectly honest at that time it did not occur to me that a permit
would be necessary, in hindsight I can see why the building department would want to make
sure that the stairs were built properly. So I am applying for a permit to hopefully correct that
situation.
Also in Spring 2020(during the pandemic) my wife purchased me(for my 40th Birthday) a
Aquarest"plug and play"hot tub. We both researched the building code, and since the hot tub
was 120v "plug and play" and the water is only 22" deep,we figured that it would fall under the
portable pool less than 24"deep category, and therefore not require a permit. In order to level
the hot tub, I constructed a box out of 2x8's, cut to meet the contour of the asphalt in the rear of
my home, and used gravel to create a level surface. The hot tub itself is 16'from the closest
property line.
In July of 2021 1 received a visit from Steven Fews, who brought to my attention that the hot tub
required a permit, and that my pool permit was never closed out. After looking into it, I failed to
call for the inspection of my pool after it was put up, so I was never issued a COO. I took the
pool down immediately, and drained the hot tub, and they remain down and empty until I can get
everything resolved.
