Wolman <mindywolman@access.net> Sent:Monday, August 9, 2021 7:15 PM To:Alex Marshall Subject:Proposed 900 King Street Redevelopment Plan Dear Ms. Marshall: This email is to express my concerns about and opposition to the 900 King Street Redevelopment Plan which will be discussed at the August 10, 2021 Village of Rye Brook Board of Trustees meeting. I recently purchased a home in The Arbors and moved in less than two weeks ago. I am concerned about the size of the proposed building, which appears to be much bigger than the structure that is currently there. I moved out of NYC to Rye Brook for a variety of reasons. I was certainly hoping to live in a more peaceful and quiet environment. The construction project will cause a increased traffic and noise in the area. The demolition of the existing structure and building of the proposed assisted living facility will likely impact air quality in the area (certainly in The Arbors, which is located directly next to the site). I am also worried about The Arbors winding up with “overflow” parking during the demolition/construction process and after the building is built (if it does not include sufficient parking for the hundreds of residents/guests/staff who will need to park their cars). If the Plan is approved and the new building constructed, it will increase the traffic in the area (as it will be a multi-unit residential building with a large staff) and will impact all village resources, facilities and stores in the area. I am particularly concerned about the impact that the demolition, new construction, and the new large facility will have on the quality of life in Rye Brook. In addition, although I understand the need for assistive living facilities, I am concerned about building such a facility in our neighborhood during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. There is certainly no need to risk the health of the existing residents by bringing construction crews and hundreds of new residents/staff into the community at this time. With the new and more highly contagious COVID variants now circulating, it does not seem wise to bring in hundreds of people into our community who will be working and/or living close together and then going to stores and other facilities in Rye Brook and the local surrounding areas. This becomes an even greater concern when you consider the proposed construction’s proximity to Blind Brook High School. In sum, I am strenuously opposed to approval of the Redevelopment Plan due to the impact it will have on the Rye Brook community during the demolition and construction of the new building, the impact the large facility will have on local resources and traffic, and based on the potential health issues that it could pose (both in terms of air quality/pollution and a possible increased COVID positivity rate).
