Subject:Comments for Village Board re: 900 King Street
Dear Village Board,
I am a long-time Westchester Resident and recently moved permanently to Rye Brook. I am vehemently
opposed to the proposed 900 King Street project for the same reasons that so many of my neighbors have
expressed already.
Not only are there significant environmental impacts that this project will bring, but the details of the proposal
have clearly not been revised and reviewed enough. The townspeople of Rye Brook can already foresee how
inadequately prepared the developer is to address issues such as traffic patterns, zoning laws, construction noise,
parking, and vegetation changes, and are speaking out to protect the community we live in.
It's overwhelming to think that lay people of Rye Brook have a better grasp of the realities of this project and its
implications on our community than the developers who have been pushing for years for this with little to no
change to their proposal.
This project will severely deter future first time families and a younger generation from moving to the Arbors
community, which is extremely unique in what it offers compared to the larger Rye Brook community of
individual, larger-sized homes. The construction noise and eyesore will reduce nearby home values for several
years, and the addition of such a large commercial-looking structure will ensure a value reduction far into the
future. The beautiful vegetation and wildlife that we live alongside will be destroyed at the cost of a residential
building. A building that, due to the unforeseen COVID pandemic, absolutely requires more research and data
to defend and forecast community interest in.
It should be a testament to the will of this community that so many of us have spoken out, written in, and
commented publicly to prevent or amend this project, all amidst a global pandemic. It's clear that the people of
Rye Brook don't want this project to be completed, don't see the value that it will bring, and instead can so
clearly see how negatively this will affect our community in a plethora of ways.
I respectively ask that you take our perspective and feedback heavily into consideration as you approach final
decision making on this project. It is the same people of this community that are speaking out that have made
Rye Brook what it is, and those voices deserve to be heard.
Thank you,
Caitlin Occhipinti
