Chris:
We wish to express some thoughts about the proposed new project at 900 King Street.
39 Years Ago – In the beginning, the people who were in charge here were very strict
about keeping the owners of the 900 King Street from putting up any office building(s)
that were too large .The rationale for this was to maintain the rush hours in-flow/out-flow
of traffic on Arbor Drive, of Arbors homeowners to be opposite to the business cars of
the 900 tenants. We lived here at the time, and the flow of in bound/out bound traffic was
then very reasonable, on Arbor Drive, at least for the first twelve years, when IBM was
the 900 tenant. It seemed to work as well with the businesses that followed IBM. We are
not opposed to taking the building down, and getting rid of the parking lot, but what is
proposed now is too big, too dense and too spread out.
Buffer Zone – Which is between 900 King property and Ivy Hill homes in the Arbors.
This will probably soon be the only green space left (except Crawford Park) in Rye
Brook. As everyone should know, it is an important wetlands area. We applaud the new
builders for recognizing this. But, too often in the past, it has been neglected. Trees have
unnecessarily died, and junk and debris has been often tossed there. Any new owners
must present a statement that there will be no more neglect of this buffer zone area.
Other Health Facilities – Has the builder considered how many health facilities we now
have on King Street ? We believe there are 5 different facilities. How many beds are
empty ? Did the builder do a study on this ?
Greenwich Traffic – Have we interacted with them on this property proposal ? After all,
King Street is their way to travel to and from work, as well as those of us in Rye Brook.
We remember, at the time of Avalon, Greenwich First Selectman, Tom Ragland, came to
most meetings. Do we let them know about the “new” traffic they will be faced with ?
They travel this road every work day of the year as we do.
