HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-05-03 - Parks and Rec Advisory Council Meeting Minutes MINUTES OF THE VILLAGE OF RYE BROOK PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL 938 KING STREET RYE BROOK,New York 10573 May 3, 2016 Convene Meeting: Parks and Recreation Advisory Council Superintendent Bertolacci called the meeting to order at 8:04pm. The following Members of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Council were present: Advisory Council Members: Michael Keilman, Jason Steinberg, Scott Tillison, Adam Zahl Absent Parks & Recreation Advisory Council Members: Chairman Buzin, Susan Gardner, Emma Saghir Recreation Department Members: Robert Bertolacci, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jennifer Leichter, Office Assistant I. Minutes: a. Approve April 5, 2016 Minutes: Superintendent Bertolacci asked for a motion to accept the April 5, 2016 minutes. Council Member Keilman made the motion to accept the April 5, 2016 minutes and Council Member Zahl seconded the motion. The minutes were accepted and approved. II. Public View Points: a. There was a discussion regarding T-Ball and other games that were unable to take place last week due to the pesticide sprayed on the Athletic field. b. Council Member Keilman raised the issue of Rookie League based on complaints brought before him. People would like to know if there is some way to do Thursday and Friday practices or coaches' clinics because there is such a disparity in the level of play and therefore the games are not good. c. The issue of the loose bricks around the flagpole at Pine Ridge Park was raised again. III.Superintendent's Report: a. Little League Opening Day: Superintendent Bertolacci said he felt everything went well on Little League Opening Day. He thanked the members of the Council that came out to help. 1.) Season to Date Superintendent Bertolacci said he has not received any complaints. Council Member Keilman said he had only heard positive things about the pitching machine. 1168377.1 b. Spring Program Update: There were no updates to report. c. Garibaldi Playground: Superintendent Bertolacci said the playground should be ready to go at the end of this month or beginning of next month. d. Rye Brook Birthday: Superintendent Bertolacci said the birthday celebration will take place June 11th from 12-4pm at Crawford Park. He said currently we are working on sponsors for the event. He stated if he gets good numbers, he would like to maximize the monies for the entertainment portion of the event. He expressed that he was working with Acme to donate all the food and if they do then he can have more rides and better rides. He said that the birthday is going to be very different than prior years. He said he will be looking for volunteers from the Rec Council as always. e. Pine Ridge Basketball Courts Superintendent Bertolacci said the basketball courts were paved last week. He said new drains were put in and the courts should be reopened already if not tomorrow. He said the plan is to close them again in August. IV.Village-PTA Coordinating Subcommittee—Rick Buzin: There were no updates to report. V. Basketball Subcommittee Report—Mike Keilman: Council Member Keilman said he had nothing to report. VI.Grievance Subcommittee Report- Adam Zahl: a. Code of Conduct: Council Member Zahl said he had nothing to report. VII. Baseball Subcommittee Report - Scott Tillison: Council Member Tillison said he thinks the pitching machine is great, however there are those who do not and we know we cannot please everyone. There was much discussion of the pitching machine and its use. The Council discussed different fields and their usage. Council Member Tillison said that he thinks Rookie ball should be structured like the Rookie program that Rye Brook Travel does in the summer, where practices are done during the week and then they call scrimmages, a game on Saturday and then have the championship week. Council Member Tillison discussed how good it would be to have games by hitting off the T. There was discussion amongst the Council about the pros and cons to the kids using the T. Council Member Tillison said the uniforms are a huge hit this season. There was discussion amongst the Council about the 4th grade class phasing out from baseball. 1168377.1 There was also discussion of the need to schedule games earlier going forward, 5:30pm being the latest they can start as it gets too dark. There was discussion of pitching rotation and rules. There was discussion of every league should play on a fixed night starting next season. Council Member Tillison said with regard to the Major leagues the pitching aspect of it needs a little more focus on scheduling just to make sure we maintain healthy arms. He feels the Major league teams are unbalanced and also feels we should redraft every year and that 15 kids is too big. VIII. Old Business: There was no old business to report. IX. New Business: There was no new business to report. X. Adjournment: Superintendent Bertolacci asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Council Member Keilman made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Council Member Steinberg seconded the motion. All approved and the meeting was adjourned at 8:56pm.
