Approval of Minutes: Motion made to accept the minutes of the 04/09/2007 Traffic
Commission meeting as is by Commissioner Rednick seconded by Chairman Appelbaum
all in favor.
Report to Commission:
1- Commission informed that Sergeant Davison sent an official letter to the Director
of Bright Horizons Nursery School on 04/25/2007. The letter addressed the
commissions finding about the patrons request to use fire lines to drop off and
pick up children. This request was denied. A copy of the official letter was
supplied to Chairman Appelbaum for the record.
2- Commission informed that the question about restricted parking in the Red Roof
Cul-de-sac was addressed during the June 2, 2003 traffic commission meeting and
it was decided not to restrict parking in the cul-de-sac because it may cause an
excessive number of vehicles to park on the roads adjacent to Pine Ridge Park.
Old Business:
1- Request for Seasonal "No Parking" signs on Mohegan Lane opposite Pine Ridge
Park from Latonia Rd to Bonwit Rd. The 05/07/2007 traffic commission meeting
did not have the attendance for a quorum. Chairman Appelbaum requested that
Sgt Davison conduct an e-mail vote on the issue. Sgt Davison outlined the request
for the no parking signs and e-mailed each traffic commissioner and requested
that they vote on the issue. As of May 21, 2007 the vote stands as follows.
Chairman Appelbaum votes yes. Traffic Commissioners Rednick, Russo, Blank,
Walter and Ferraro voted yes. Commission Brackman votes no and Commission
Varbero did not respond.
2- Recommendation on 02/08/2007 by Foreman Ron Romano of the Rye Brook
Highway Department that the following 24 intersections do not currently have,
but may need, stop signs. Sgt Davison instructed P.O. Hawkins in writing to
survey these locations and return to him in writing his findings. P.O. Hawkins
returned in writing his recommendation that 8 of the 24 intersections do require
stop signs in his professional opinion. Sgt Davison checked the noted
intersections and concurs with P.O. Hawkins findings. The eight intersections that
the traffic commission are being asked to review are as follows:
Parkwood PI at Lawridge Dr(yield sign be replaced by stop sign)
Winthrop Dr at Berkley Dr
Pine Ridge Rd at Mark Dr(stop sign on Mark Dr)
Hunter Dr at Pine Ridge Rd (yield sign be replaced by stop sign)
Hunter Dr at Latonia Rd
Robins Roost at Meadowlark Rd
Irenhyl Ave at Hillcrest Ave (presently a 2 way stop, should be an all way stop)
Beacon Ln at Wilton Rd
Issue has been tabled to the 06/04/2007 Traffic Commission Meeting.
New Business:
1- The Commission requested that parking also be monitored along Mohegan Lane
from Latonia Rd to Pine Ridge Rd to see if the no parking restrictions at Pine
Ridge Park will affect this location.
2- The Bellefair Homeowners Association Request that 30 mph speed limit within
Bellefair be reduced to 20 mph for safety reasons. The traffic commission feels
that the Rye Brook Police Department should survey the area and relay their
findings to the traffic commission and that a letter be sent to the Bellefair
Homeowners Association informing them of the survey and stating that the
commission will look into their request.
Meeting adjourned: 08:47 pm.
Next Meeting: June 4, 2007 at 8:00 pm.
