Traffic Commission Meeting Minutes

Convene Meeting: Meeting called to order by Chairman Appelbaum at 7:I0 PM
Approval of Minutes: Motion made to accept the minutes of the 04?0712014 Traffic
Commission meeting as is by Comm. Lombardi, seconded by Comm Briganti. All arc in
favor.
Report to Commission: There was discussion regarding an e-mail referral from a
resident on Ellendale Avenue. There was a complaint of new "No parking" signs on the
North side of the roadway, South of South Ridge Street. Resident was informed that the
Police Department along with the Highway Department replaced missing signs in
accordance with the Village Code Section 240-19. This is necessary because allo%N ing
cars to park on the hill South of South Ridge Street causes a hazard and traffic back up
onto South Ridge Street.
The Traffic Commission will request information about proposed development on
Ellendale Avenue that was mentioned in the e-mail and ascertain if there is any off street
parking in the plans for the development
Old Business: Letter will be sent to Resident Polanco regarding the referral to the traffic
commission for speeding and parking on Highview Ave. The Police did monitor the area
and there will not be a recommendation to the Village Boards at this time for any
changes. The Commission was presented a copy of the letter that will be sent
New Business: The Traffic Commission did receive a complaint regarding parking on
Bonwit Road around a sharp curve, South of Carlton Lane causing a hazardous condition.
Sgt Arnold and Highway Foreman did check the area, took measurements and
photographed the effected location. Sgt Arnold reported that while checking the area a
school bus was traveling in the area south oil Bonwit. At the same time another vehicle
was traveling north. With cars parked around the curve, the motor\chicle had to stop ai;d
reverse so the bus could continue on its way.
The Commission did discuss the problem and heard comments from several residents of
Bonwit Road who were in attendance. There was a motion by Comm. BrigantilComm.
Lombardi which was passed and carried to make the following recommendation to the
Village Board:
(1) No Parking zone on the North side of Bonwit Road, starting 340 Feet South of
Carlton lane for a distance of 100 Feet South.
(2) No Parking zone on the South side of Bonwit Road, starting from a point 340 feet
south of Carlton Lane for a distance of 120 Feet South.
Sgt. Arnold will also look into the possibility of signs indicating the suggested speed
around the curve or warning sign.
