HomeMy WebLinkAbout2008-11-03 - Parks and Rec Advisory Council Meeting Minutes MINUTES OF THE VILLAGE OF RYE BROOK PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL 938 KING STREET, RYE BROOK,NEW YORK 10573 November 3, 2008 Convene Meeting: Chairman Steve Schoen called the meeting to order at 8:15pm. The following members of the Council were present: Advisory Council Members: Chairman Steve Schoen, Richard Gutner, Debra Tempesta Jeffrey Kornblum, Ken Frankel, Marc Zimmerman, Sari Jablon, Glenn Brettschneider Absent Council Members: Steven Epstein Paul Rosenberg, Rye Brook Village Trustee & Liaison to Parks &Recreation Recreation Department Members Present: Robert Bertolacci, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Carmella Swick, Sr. Office Assistant 1. Minutes: Chairman Schoen asked for a motion to accept the Minutes of October 6, 2008. Committee Member Gutner made a motion to accept the October 6, 2008 Minutes as amended and Committee Member Tempesta seconded the motion and all approved. II. Public View Points: Committee Member Zimmerman said he was approached by a few parents whose children are in the Kindergarten Floor Hockey program. They wanted to know if it was an instructional program or program where the children just get to run around the gym. They felt that the children didn't know how to hold the sticks properly and there was a lack of instruction. Committee Member Kornblum stated that he received a call from one of the basketball coaches stating that he couldn't be at the 2nd and 3rd grade boys' draft. Committee Member Kornblum said he wasn't notified when the draft was or the time. Superintendent Bertolacci said maybe it was an oversight that a coach may have been left out. Superintendent Bertolacci said that Janice will send out an e-mail to the coaches with the information on the date and time of the drafts. The basketball seasons starts on December 6th 111. Rye Brook Travel Baseball Club a. Survey Chairman Schoen asked for a motion to go into executive session to discuss the survey that was sent out to the participants of the Rye Brook Travel Baseball season for spring, fall and summer. The goal of the committee is to summarize the survey for the Open Forum. 1 Committee Member Gutner made a motion to go into executive session to discuss the survey of the Rye Brook Travel Baseball Club events from spring, summer and fall. Committee Member Tempesta seconded the motion. All were in favor. Chairman Schoen asked for a motion to come out of executive session. Committee Member Gutner made a motion to come out of executive session and Committee Member Tempesta seconded the motion. All were in favor. Chairman Schoen summarized the items recommended to Superintendent Bertolacci to be discussed with the Travel Baseball board. 1. Renewal of Contract for another year or longer 2. The process of selecting coaches for the teams 3. Better advance scheduling and communication of practices and games across all teams 4. Set up a meeting with all other travel organizations to work out scheduling of games and practices months before their session starts 5. If there are smaller rosters, is it possible and helpful to establish and define "minimum playing time" for the participants and parents? 6. How will the summer camp kids be treated regarding selection of summer and fall teams. 7. How did the baseball club board and/or grievance committee handle the situation of the coach who was ejected from a game- what was his retribution? IV. Winter Brochure Superintendent Bertolacci stated that the winter brochure will not be mailed out to the residents. It costs the Village about $5,000 to $6,000 to have the brochure printed and mailed out to our residents. It will be accessed on-line at the ryebrook.org website. Residents will be able to register for the programs on December 15th at 9:30pm. V. Adjournment A motion was made by Committee Member Gutner at 10:35pm to adjourn the meeting. The motion was seconded by Committee Member Tempesta and all approved. The next Parks and Recreation Advisory Council meeting is on December 2, 2008 at 8:00pm. Minutes prepared by Carmella Swick 2
