Committee Member Tillison made the motion to accept the June 10, 2014 Minutes and Committee Member Carbone seconded the motion. The June 10, 2014 Minutes were approved and accepted. Committee Member Funtleyder abstained. II. Public View Points: Superintendent Bertolacci said the wall at Pine Ridge Park is up. It takes about a month for the wall to cure and then the wall will be painted green. Superintendent Bertolacci said the wall is 2' higher because that is the height of a paddle ball wall. The width is the same as the old wall. The wall didn't cost any money to be taken down and $40,000.00 to rebuild it. Chairman Schutzer said there was a lot of excitement this spring with baseball and the tournament. Kyle did a great job sending e-mails after the games and you could sense the enthusiasm from Kyle. Committee Member Carbone said we made a name for ourselves in baseball this year. Our 11/12 team went 4 and 2 both losses were on walk-offs the bottom of the 6`h. We went into the semi- finals and Sherman Park that actually beat Harrison were glad they didn't have to face us because we were the best team they had to play in the tournament. Chairman Schutzer said this was a good year and we had age eligible 7th graders. There was also a great article about the team in the Westmore News. 1168377.1 Committee Member Funtleyder said he was in Pine Ridge Park and the tennis attendant reported to me that whomever the park is named after, the sign is down. Superintendent Bertolacci said the tennis attendant came and spoke to me about the sign and assured her it will be take care of. Committee Member Carbone said Trustee Rednick was talking about congratulating the 11/12 baseball team at a future Village Board meeting Chairman Schutzer suggested giving the players a certificate. Last year our players were given certificates from David Gelfarb, Westchester County Legislator, for our mini travel tournament. Perhaps, the same can be done for the District 20 team. III. Superintendent's Report: a. Birthday Celebration Wrap-Up/Ideas for Next Year: Superintendent Bertolacci said we made about$1200 in food sales. One recommendation for next year is not to have a dunk tank. We got the dunk tank with the expectation that the Blind Brook teachers would man the tank and then decided they didn't want to do it. The dunk tank therefore had very little supervision and it didn't work out. Superintendent Bertolacci said for next year we would like to have some field games to try and get everyone involved. Some suggestions are relay races and have the baseball championship game at the birthday celebration. Committee Member Tillison suggested a whiffle ball or volleyball game. Another suggestion is having a father/mother, son/daughter baseball game. Committee Member Erenfryd suggested a 5K run which would end at Crawford Park around 12:OOpm when the birthday celebration would start. Superintendent Bertolacci said we previously tried a 5k but we didn't get the numbers. We probably got about 40 runners. The problem is there are so many races going on. b. Fall Programs Superintendent Bertolacci said we are going to have an art program for 4 years old at Village Hall in the fall. A Rye Brook resident, Debbie Blumenthal, will be running the class. Superintendent Bertolacci said he would like to have more programs for this age group because that is an age group we don't have many programs for. Superintendent Bertolacci said this weekend there will be dog wash held by the New Rochelle Humane Society in the back of the Rye Brook firehouse on King Street. Superintendent Bertolacci said there will be Music in the Parks to be held at Pine Ridge Park on Sunday from 6; 30pm to 8:30pm. The show is put on by the Council of the Arts. c. District 20 Wrap-Up: Superintendent Bertolacci said some of the District 20 wrap-up has been discussed in Public View Points. In the District 20 games we were 4 and 2 and the 2 losses were on walk-offs. This was notice to District 20 that Rye Brook exists. Chairman Schutzer said he heard some talk about Rye Brook hosting the District games next year. Superintendent Bertolacci said he has to look into all the rules and regulations there are to host the District games. 1168377.1 IV. Baseball Sub-Committee Report— Scott Tillison Chairman Schutzer asked if we did a survey regarding the Little League program. Superintendent Bertolacci said the survey didn't go out to the community yet. Committee Member Tillison said he spoke with Chris Swallen and Chris was happy with the inter league games between Port Chester and Rye Brook. Superintendent Bertolacci said we are going to try and have the Minor League have some inter league games also. Committee Member Tillison said as much participation as we had with the older 7th graders, next year is going to be a big challenge for our Major League. Committee Member Carbone said from year to year we had 5 or 6 kids coming back but next year we have only 2 players coming back from the District 20 team. Committee Member Tillison asked if we can work together with Rye or Port Chester to enter a 10/11 year old District 20 team and give them the opportunity to play. Superintendent Bertolacci said they need to play in their own Little League. Committee Member Carbone said there is another option for an 11/13 year old Jr. Division where you don't necessarily have to have a Little League, but they would play as a travel team against other teams in the Jr. Division. Chairman Schutzer said we need a different ball to use with the pitching machine. Superintendent Bertolacci said we need to use a leather baseball with the pitching machine. Also, we have to get a new generator. Committee Member Tillison asked if there are back stop screens that you can't see thru. Superintendent Bertolacci said that there is a black screen that is made for the backstop. Committee Member Tillison said the only reason he wants to encourage this is he doesn't want parents standing behind the backstop. Committee Member Carbone said a lot of fields have a fence that goes around the field and you could enter only through the dugout like the field at Lyons Park in Port Chester. V. Basketball Sub-Committee Report—Brian Funtleyder Committee Member Carbone asked if rec is going to have a 10th grade basketball program. I know we have talked about in the past and some of the kids are asking about it. Superintendent Bertolacci said he has to figure it out because most of those kids in the 10th and 11th grade coach the 8th and 9th grade teams. The basketball committee will convene in August. Vl. Grievance Sub-Committee Report—Adam Zahl There are no grievances to report. 1168377.1 VII. Playground Sub-Committee Report—Traci Erenfryd Superintendent Bertolacci reported that he has met with a couple of playground companies and they are willing to come here and present their playground equipment. Also, I have a request into the Mayor to get some of the local families who patron the playground to get on the committee. The more people who get on this committee the more of a success it will be. Superintendent Bertolacci asked Committee Member Erenfryd to meet with him next week and set up a foundation for the committee. Superintendent Bertolacci said the playground equipment that is in the park now is about 18 years old. Committee Member Carbone suggested that some park benches be added to the park so people who buy food from the truck would have a place to sit in the shade and eat their food after the baseball games. Committee Member Erenfryd suggested a soft surface for the playground. Also, there is a water park near my parents. It's a sprinkler where water sprays out. Superintendent Bertolacci said there was one in the Capital Plan but we didn't do anything with it at Rye Hills Park. There is a water playground in Lyons Park. VIII. Old Business: a. AED Signage: Superintendent Bertolacci said the best place for the AED signage would be where you walk down the stairs from the school parking lot. That is the only other place you can put it,right next to the monument. IX. New Business: The next project is a Community Center. X. Adjournment: Chairman Schutzer asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Committee Member Funtleyder made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Committee Member Tillison seconded the motion. All approved and the meeting adjourned at 9:05pm. The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Council will be on August 5, 2014 at 8:OOpm. 1168377.1
