HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-04-13 - Parks and Rec Advisory Council Meeting Minutes MINUTES OF THE VILLAGE OF RYE BROOK PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COUNCIL 938 KING STREET RYE BROOK,New York 10573 April 13,2015 Convene Meeting: Parks and Recreation Advisory Council Chairman Jamie Schutzer called the meeting to order at 8:30pm. The following Members of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Council were present: Advisory Council Members: Christopher Dutra, Brian Funtleyder, Adam Zahl Absent Parks & Recreation Advisory Council Members: Chairman Schutzer, Steve Ketchabaw, Traci Erenfryd Frank Carbone, Scott Tillison Susan Gardner, Rye Brook Resident Recreation Department Members: Robert Bertolacci, Parks and Recreation Superintendent Cannella Swick, Sr. Office Assistant I. Minutes: a. Approve March 17,2015 Minutes: Superintendent Bertolacci said we don't have a quorum so the March 17, 2015 Minutes will be tabled until the next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Council. H. Public View Points: There are no Public View Points. III.Superintendent's Report: a. Playground Update: Superintendent Bertolacci reported the playground equipment for Pine Ridge Park has been ordered with a 6 week turnaround. Superintendent Bertolacci passed around the configuration of the equipment for the playground. All the big equipment is within the budget. Superintendent Bertolacci talked to the company and their installers and was able to get the price of the installation fee down so we were able to cut another $19,000 off the original price. All the equipment will go in the existing area of the playground. The company had a discountined color on the Super Nova so we were able to get that piece of equipment at 20% off. The total cost of the equipment came to $125,000 which $100,000 came from the budget and $25,000 from the Recreation Trust account. 1168377.1 b. Spring Carnival: Superintendent Bertolacci reported that the carnival is about one month away. Some vendors that we have coming to the carnival are a Frozen Yogurt truck, Westchester Burger; Good Humor truck, Brick Oven Pizza and a truck selling Fried Foods. The Rye Brook Police are holding a car seat safety inspection for anyone interested who are at the carnival. There will be a Mini Cooper dealership at the carnival for anyone who may be interested and need some info on the car. We have some craft vendors that will be selling jewelry and another vendor selling skin care products. The Carnival Company will be selling sausage and pepper, zeppole, and Greek food etc. Superintendent Bertolacci said last year the vendors were outside the carnival area and this year the vendors will be in the middle, the teen section on one side and the kiddy section on the other side and the food will be in the middle which will provide access on both sides. The advertising for the Carnival will be in the Journal News for two weeks, Greenwich Times, Port Chester Patch, Westmore News and our Facebook page. The Carnival signs are in front of Ridge Street School and Blind Brook School. The dates for the Carnival are May 15, 16 and 17 and the location for the Carnival is at 900 King Street. c. Men's Softball: Superintendent Bertolacci reported the Men's Softball League has been cancelled due to lack of teams. This was the first time in 30 years that there isn't a Men's Softball program. d. Other Updates: Superintendent Bertolacci said Little League Opening Day will take place this Saturday. The parade will take place from Ridge Street School to Pine Ridge Park. We have an alternate route this year due to the construction on Latonia Road. The park route is Winding Wood Road to Old Orchard into Red Roof. We are looking for volunteers to help cook hamburgers and hotdogs at Pine Ridge Park for Opening Day. The parade starts at 12:30pm.The food will be ready for 1:00pm. IV.Basketball Sub-Committee Report-Brian Funtleyder: Committee Member Funtleyder said the basketball season is done. It was a good season and relatively uneventful. The County Center Tournament went very well. Committee Member Funtleyder asked why one of the basketball teams had 11 players and the other teams had 10. Superintendent Bertolacci said there were 11 players on the girl's team, why cut one girls from the team. The coach was supportive of the decision. V. Grievance Sub-Committee Report-Adam Zahl: Committee Member Zahl said we are now in between seasons. Hopefully we will have as good a Little League season with no grievances. VI.Baseball Sub-Committee Report-Scott Tillison: Committee Member Dutra said everything is set for play with Port Chester in both levels. Superintendent Bertolacci said Rye Brook is also playing Irvington. Committee Member Dutra said the older boys are scheduled to play 4 games against Port Chester and 4 games against 1168377.1 Irvington. At Irvington they are all night games under the lights. There are some remarks about using the pitching machine and their arguments are more on the side of the kids not learning how to pitch. Superintendent Bertolacci said that the kids will pitch the 6`h inning. Superintendent Bertolacci said this weekend is the Little League Opening Day, hoping for good weather and a successful season. Committee Member Dutra said the first game against Port Chester is April 25t', 2:30pm at Lyons Park. Superintendent Bertolacci reported that we had to redraft the girls' softball this weekend because we had 16 girls on a team. The softball coaches originally wanted to have 3 teams because there were not enough pitchers to go around. More girls signed up so we redrafted and made 4 teams of 12 girls. There will be some clinics every week for the girls. There are four 4`h graders playing in the Major Leagues because there wasn't enough to have a Minor League Softball program between two towns. VII. Old Business: a. Hosting District 20 Games. Superintendent Bertolacci said hosting District 20 games at our park is not happening this year. We won't be hosting but will still have two teams in the tournament. We will have two boys' teams and possibly one girls' team. We also have to see who is going to be around in the summer and who wants to play. We have to see if we can draw up a competitive team. VIII. New Business: Committee Member Zahl asked whose terms are up on the Parks and Advisory Council. Superintendent Bertolacci said it is not public yet who is leaving and who the new members are. It will be public after the Village Board meeting tomorrow night. IX. Adjournment: Superintendent Bertolacci asked for a motion to adjourn the meeting. Committee Member Dutra made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Committee Member Zahl seconded the motion. All approved and the meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm. The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will be held on Tuesday, May 5t', 2015 at 8:15pm. Minutes prepared by: Cannella Swick 1168377.1
